Chef Yam Gurung

Born and raised in Nepal, chef and restaurant owner Yam Gurung has been cooking Nepali, Western & International cuisine for over 25 years. He spent the early part of his career as a Himalayan mountain guide. He cooked during the off season in a small village near Annapurna and began to appreciate that preparing, serving and eating well was imperative in order to sustain the energy required to get through his physically and mentally demanding days. Furthermore, he realized that using fresh, natural and healthy ingredients can and should taste great. He brought this knowledge and expertise with him to Canada and continues to put his heart and soul into satisfying the tastes and needs of his patrons.

Necessity, Heritage and Love

What’s In a Name? Khaja (meaning snack) literally translates to “Eat and Run”. In today's society that phrase is all too familiar. However, it does not mean that you can’t be busy and still eat healthy. As a chef at a Yoga school, Yam Gurung turned to his Nepalese roots out of the necessity to provide wheat free, high energy food for the students and faculty. As a result, Yam’s Nepalese Artisan Recipe for granola was born. The fact that everyone loved it and wanted to know where to buy it was reason enough for Yam to follow through and make it available to the general public. Today we carry four varieties of Khaja Himalayan Granola that contain some of the best natural ingredients, carefully selected for their health and energy sustaining benefits.
